About Michilena

Born in New York, Michilena grew up in a large Italian family where the tradition of Italian food was a primary staple in and of itself. She was named after her grandmother who was born in Italy in 1896.Unfortunately her grandmother passed away before Michilena was born but not before she handed down her recipe to her son. As early as nine-years old Michilena’s father began teaching her how to prepare her grandmother’s Italian gravy. Over time she began to add other ingredients to enhance its fresh flavor.

Once Michilena became accustomed to using her recipe she soon began cooking for family and friends on holiday occasions and was asked repeatedly to produce enough gravy for them to take home. They even suggested that she prepare enough to sell but always declined. Years later while working as a Paralegal her recipe grew in popularity as family and friends shared the Italian gravy with others. The success also yielded her an assignment to produce enough gravy for Church fairs and special functions.

Since her passion for cooking still remained, together with strong encouragement from her sons, Michilena finally conceded and went into business. Her sincere hope is that you enjoy this original recipe well enough to recommend to others.

Michilena earned her A.A.S degree in Paralegal Studies from SUNY located in Selden, NY. She is a Certified Hospice volunteer and currently resides in New Jersey with her husband.
